Pull-off Strength Test Optimization

MICRO

  • Improve pull-off strength test efficiency by enabling use of OEM wedge grips

  • Problem: The test part could not be securely held in standard OEM wedge grips, requiring an improvised fixture that increased setup time and variability

Objective

  • Reverse-engineered OEM wedge grip jaw faces using an optical comparator

  • Redesigned the jaw faces in SolidWorks to accommodate the test part’s geometry

  • Replaced the original jaw faces in the OEM wedge grips with the custom redesigned ones.

How?

Dimensioned sketch for reverse engineering in SolidWorks.

Results

  • Enabled use of OEM wedge grips for the test setup

  • Added a pin-bar handle to improve handling and prevent loss during setup and teardown.

  • Improved repeatability and ease of setup, reduceing operator setup time by ~20%
